These programs are free and a part of  the "Look What's Cookin' at your library" 2008 Minnesota Summer Reading Program. This cooking themed reading program encourages children to read over the summer. Studies show that students who don’t read over the summer are less prepared for school success in the fall. The summer reading program at Detroit Lakes Library makes summer reading more fun with special programs, good books, and reading incentives.

R.E.A.D. - read with a dog program
Every Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Reading on Request
Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.
Volunteers will read one-on-one with children.

Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m.

Quilting Class
Friday, July 25 at 10 a.m.
Calling all quilters to a unique class. If you have knowledge of the internet and an intermediate level of computer expertise, this class is for you!! We will locate quilting resources on the internet and learn to print and save quilting patterns!! Class size is limited, so call Detroit Lakes Library at 847-2168.

Due to space limitations, computer classes require pre-registration. Please call 847-2168 to register.

Introduction to Computers
Tuesday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to noon
Learn the main parts and functions of a computer and how to use a mouse. No experience necessary.

Searching the Internet
Tuesday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to noon
Learn how to access and navigate web pages and how to evaluate information on the world wide web. Prerequisite: Intro to Computers or ability to use a mouse.

Basic Microsoft Word
Tuesday, August 19from 10 a.m. to noon
Learn the basics of Microsoft Word. Learn to set up a document, use the toolbar and menus, copy and paste, align text, change fonts and use clip art. Prerequisite: Intro to Computers or ability to use a mouse.

Individual Computer Tutoring
Wednesdays, June-August 6:30 to 8 p.m.
