American Battle Monuments Commission
The Commission maintains a listing of those interred at the American military cemeteries overseas and those Missing in Action from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.   In addition, it contains a listing of war veterans buried at our Corozal American Cemetery and those who lost their lives during the Korean War.

AltaVista Babel Fish Translations
This AltaVista feature allows you to translate up to 150 words or a specific Web page into another language. Available translations at this time include: (1) English to Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, (2) each of these and Russian into English, and (3) French and German into each other. NOTE: The computer-generated translations can easily contain mistakes.

Ancestry.com
Along with a "Learn" link to hundreds of free genealogy materials, this site offers database searching of over one billion names for ancestor information. Many search results, like those from the popular Social Security Death Index, can be viewed for a fee; others are available for a subscription fee.

Beginning Genealogical Research
Written by the National Archives and Records Administration, this site offers tips for people new to genealogical research. It lists good books for beginners and has links to articles about solving difficult research problems, obtaining records, and genealogy societies.

Family History Workshops
Offers information on the Heritage Education Commission's annual genealogy workshop at Minnesota State University Moorhead. At $25 for the day-long event-including four class periods with twenty-four classes to choose from, genealogy information displays, a noon program, a sit-down lunch, and refreshments throughout the day-these excellent workshops are one of the best genealogy bargains in our area.

FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service
This is the extremely popular Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) genealogy Website. You can search databases for information on ancestors, learn basic steps in genealogy, access research help (forms, maps, guides), link to genealogical Websites, connect and share data with other genealogists, and learn about the LDS Family History Library.

Institute for Regional Studies, North Dakota State University (NDSU)
This special collection of the NDSU library houses a wealth of useful materials for researching genealogy, history, and everyday life in North Dakota. Aside from basic descriptions of the institute's services and collections, the Website's "Biography and Genealogy" link offers some excellent databases: North Dakota Biography Index, Dakota Territory 1885 Census Database, and North Dakota Naturalization Records Index.

Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) Library and Collections
Learn about the MHS library and search its catalogs, including the PALS online library catalog, the Minnesota Death Certificates Index, and the AskRon Newspaper Database. This site also includes "Research Tips" on family research, Civil War records, personal records, and information on library classes at MHS.

National Archives and Records Administration
(NARA) "Genealogy Page"
Describes details of genealogy research at NARA facilities and how to request records from them. "Part 2: Online Information" presents numerous guides to research, as well as catalogs and aids to finding information on microfilm.

National Genealogical Society
With over 17,000 members, the NGS provides training, research assistance, news and other resources.

Native American Genealogy
The Web site of the American Online (AOL) Native American Genealogy group, this site contains stories and links to resources for the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Lakota nations.

Red River Valley Genealogical Society
The Website of our region's genealogy group gives information on membership, monthly meetings, research services, online/print publications, and its research library.

RootsWeb.com
Proclaiming itself "the oldest and largest free genealogy Website," RootWeb's aim is to connect people for sharing research and mutual help. Genealogists can search and submit information to databases, browse and post to message boards, join mailing lists and search mail archives, use tools and resources, build Websites, and volunteer. The "Other Tools and Resources" category also provides a "Soundex Converter" link, for automatic surname translation into the code for Soundex indexes to the Federal census.

The Ultimates
This site allows you to easily look up addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses on multiple sites without constant retyping. Genealogists can search the U.S. for people through the "White Pages," and businesses by name or category through the "Yellow Pages." The "Trip Planner" also provides route planning, destination Web links and maps. A wealth of help for genealogy research and travel.
